Our Story

The heart of Cape Town's paddling community

In the vibrant, salt-kissed heart of Cape Town's Fish Hoek, Millers Taxi has become an indispensable institution for the global downwind paddling community. Our dedicated Quantum minibus — towing a fleet of sleek surfskis on a custom trailer — is the elegant solution to the classic logistical puzzle of getting paddlers between start and finish.

The Man Behind the Wheel

Meet Vinnie

Orchestrating this entire operation is Vinnie, the passionate heart of Millers Taxi. He is far more than a mere transporter — as a fellow paddler and kindred spirit, Vinnie possesses an innate understanding of the sport's rhythms.

Millers Taxi started in 2012 with a Hyundai 9 seater whilst hiring the Mocke Trailer from Dawid Mocke Surfski School to help the paddlers get to Millers Point. Vinnie's inspiration was Godfrey Mocke his mentor who loved driving trailers and taught him how to drive safely and joined Godfrey Mocke as co-driver to transport boats to Durban with a Old Tata bakkie for Dusi Marathon. Vinnie was put in the deep end and learnt fast how to load boats and drive a trailer. Godfrey loved driving to Millers Point and Vinnie followed in his footsteps as was a passion to get as many paddlers to Millers Point as possible. Millers Taxi now has 3 trailers and can take up to 50 paddlers at once.

The Route

About the Millers Run

If you're based in Cape Town's Southern Suburbs and love downwind paddling, the Millers Run is the go-to route when the southeaster is pumping.

The Route

Start at the Cape Boat & Ski Boat Club ramp at Millers Point. From there, paddle about 800m out to Bakoven Rock, turn left, and head towards Fish Hoek, keeping Roman Rock lighthouse on your right. From Bakoven Rock to Fish Hoek is roughly 11.5–12km.

On rough days, you can use the more sheltered north ramp. Paddle out in the protection of the rocks before turning left into the run — a safer option when conditions are hectic (no shame in taking the "chicken run").

Getting There

From Fish Hoek, drive south through Simon's Town. About 3km past the last houses, you'll see the Millers Point Recreation Area sign. Continue for another 700m, turn left at the Cape Boat & Ski Boat Club sign, and follow the road down to the launch area.

What It's Like

When it's on, the Millers Run is world-class — fast, fun, and addictive.

The launch can be tricky if there's swell running into the bay. You'll notice it when the shore break builds and the rocks start rumbling. Once you're out, stay clear of the point where waves wrap and break — that's not where you want to be.

But get it right, and it's one of the best downwind runs you'll ever paddle.
